Treat Yourself – Do something you enjoy.

Some days you may just feel like resting, and this is perfectly OK. This is a time to pamper yourself, and taking the time to do something you enjoy can help you relax. It might also give you the energy to get more done in other areas of your life.

Some activities that may help you relax:

  • A hobby, such as gardening.
  • A creative activity, such as writing, crafts, or art.
  • Playing with and caring for pets.
  • Volunteer work.
  • Retail therapy – shopping either online or in a favorite store.
  • Have lunch or dinner with a friend.

A nice gift I received while in treatment was from my cousin who was also in treatment. She had “cancer” cards printed. This may sound silly but it worked. If she felt pressured to accept an invitation she really didn’t feel up accepting, she took out her cancer card which said, “Just say no.” Your friends and family should and will understand if you just need time to rest.

This is the one time in your life that it’s OK to be selfish. Try to reduce the demands on your time and eliminate anything you don’t feel well enough to do. Put Superwoman away for a while and breathe…you’ll heal and feel better for it.
